This article discusses the issues that the ENDA bill faces in the House of Representatives after being passed in the Senate. The article states that the bipartisan mindset in the senate will not flow over into the house regarding this issue because of strong repulican opposition lead by John Boehner. The people who are advocating this bill know this and are trying to appeal to the President to issue and executive order to force a house vote on the issue as he promised to do when he was running for office. Yet despite his promises of advocating for this bill at all costs when he was running, Obama’s executive order looks as though it will not occur.
I believe that the ENDA Bill should be passed because continues the principle of equal opportunity in the workforce that this nation has advocated since the civil rights movement. I beleive that if this Bill is unable to get to the floor of the house then an executive order should be used to do so. This bill would apply to the 20 percent of the nations workforce that does contractor work for the national government. I think that this is an important issue that needs to be addressed now and that cannot be put off. The majority of the nation backs this bill and because of this the government needs to at least discuss it.
