Summery: This article is about the shutdown in Washington and the different factors at play. At the moment, the house is trying, at least some are, to pass a ‘clean’ continuing resolution, which would stop the shutdown for a certain amount of time without reforming the affordable care act for example. Unfortunately for Americans, the house couldn’t pass the clean cr, because republicans are using the shutdown to their advantage. They are using it to their advantage to try and make Obama give in to reforming the affordable care act, in order to stop the shutdown. “There are enough Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives today that, if the speaker of the House, John Boehner, simply let the bill get on the floor for an up-or-down vote, every congressman could vote their conscience  — the shutdown would end today,” Obama said Thursday and he is saying that if the bill is put to a vote then the shutdown would be over. Obama isn’t necessarily right though, since republicans will still vote against the clean cr. Republicans aren’t so willing to vote with Obama because it would be a political win for Obama and the democrats, and it would leave Boehner in a bad situation. At this point in time, it is looking like the clean cr wont be passed but its not too late, but its getting close to the end of a clean cr signing. In a bit, the shutdown comes down to political power and having the upper hand. The republicans will continue to milk as much of the shutdown as they can until they are happy with a reformed affordable care act. But until a few moderate republicans side with the democrats we are still without a government and the shutdown continues.
